Tyre Protection Cover

Ever found yourselves stuck in the middle of the road due to a tyre breakdown? Unsure whether tyre cover for cars is a sensible choice? Let’s find out.

If our cars' tyres stop working, they become disabled. Tyres are the most significant organs of any vehicle. Without proper tyres, the car can lose balance, shut down, or cause unexpected damage. All drivers carry a third-party car insurance policy since it is compulsory by law. However, policyholders who want to protect their vehicle must invest in own damage or comprehensive insurance for a four-wheeler. Additionally, they can increase the coverage provided by adding riders to the base policy for an additional premium.

So, if you are wondering, “Is the tyre covered under insurance?” the answer is yes, tyre secure is one of the add-ons. Let us explore tyre cover in car insurance by discussing what it is, its inclusions and exclusions, and more.

What is a Tyre Protection Cover in Car Insurance?

A car tyre cover is insurance for your car tyres. It is an add-on rider that you can purchase with a Tata AIG standalone own-damage or comprehensive car insurance policy for an additional charge.

Tata AIG provides a tyre protector as part of its comprehensive car insurance. This add-on covers standalone accidental loss or damage to tyres. With this tyre protector in car insurance, you are offered compensation and replacement under specific circumstances.

The add-on has a minimal additional premium and can prove to be an asset in the long run, saving you a lot of money. If you already have an insurance policy from Tata AIG and want to add tyre protector insurance to your car insurance, go for a car insurance renewal online and get this add-on feature added.

Inclusions of Tyre Cover for Cars

We will cover expenses for repair and replacement, as may be necessitated, arising out of accidental loss or damage to tyres and tubes. In any situation, the company’s liability would not exceed the following, based on the unused tread depth of the respective tyre.

  • Unused tread depth of <3 mm - Considered as normal wear and tear and is not covered.

  • Unused tread depth of >- 3 to <5 mm - 50% of the cost of a new tyre or tube.

  • Unused tread depth of >=5 to < 7 mm - 75% of the cost of a new tyre or tube

  • Unused tread depth of > = 7 mm - 100% of the cost of a new tyre or tube

  • Unused Tread depth will be measured at the centre of the tread. Minimum 4 measurements at 4 different places will be taken for the purpose of arriving at mean tread depth which will be the basis of indemnity under the coverage.

Whenever a tyre replacement is allowed, it will be of the same make and specification. If a tyre of a similar specification is not available and the replaced tyre is superior to the damaged tyre, we will not be liable for betterment charges. A maximum of 4 (four) replacements will be allowed during the period of insurance.

If damage to the tyre and tube is due to accidental damage to the insured vehicle covered under the “Own Damage” section of the policy. Our liability under this cover will be restricted to the difference in depreciation percentage applied under “Own Damage” section and, as mentioned above, basis the unused tread depth.
