HSRP Uttar Pradesh

Do you know driving a vehicle without an HSRP or high-security number plate in Uttar Pradesh is considered a traffic offence? Yes, that’s true!

The Ministry of Roads Transport & Highways (MoRTH) has made it mandatory for every vehicle in India to have an HSRP number plate. It means if your vehicle is found without an HSRP plate, you will be levied heavy fines and penalties.

If you are still driving a vehicle with an old number plate, replace it with an HSRP at the earliest. Don’t know how to do it? We have got you covered.

On this page, we will elaborate on how to apply for an HSRP number plate in Uttar Pradesh online. Read on!

What is HSRP Uttar Pradesh?

HSRP stands for High-Security Registration Plate. It is an aluminium-based number plate introduced as an upgrade to traditional non-digitised number plates.

The primary objective of HSRP is to improve vehicle registration security and prevent theft and unauthorised usage of vehicles.

Unlike normal number plates, the HSRP is fixed on the vehicle using at least two non-reusable snap locks that are extremely difficult to remove. It also has several other features, including a 20 mm x 20 mm blue hologram of the Ashok Chakra in the top left corner.

Next, on the bottom left corner, it has a unique 10-digital laser branded PIN (Permanent Identification Number) preceded by the acronym “IND”. Finally, all the alphabets and numerals are sealed with a hot-stamped film.

Note that the HSRP is digitally linked to the vehicle and is only issued by filing an application.

Moreover, an HSRP can be acquired online from any government-authorised HSRP vendor or offline by visiting the RTO.

Besides the HSRP, a colour-coded fuel tag is also a mandatory requirement for vehicle owners. In the later section, we will discuss how to register for an HSRP with Colour Tags.

Why is it Important to Have HSRP Number Plate Uttar Pradesh?

Following are the main reasons why having an HSRP number plate in Uttar Pradesh is critical:

Mandatory Requirement: Foremost, HSRP is a mandatory requirement for all vehicle owners in India. If your vehicle is found without an HSRP, you will have to pay a heavy fine ranging from ₹5,500 to ₹10,000. Not just that, there can be many other consequences, such as seizing your driving licence or vehicle, and so on.

Enhance Security: As mentioned above, HSRPs are introduced with the objective of enhancing vehicle security. They come with advanced security features that make them very difficult to get duplicated or tampered with. Besides, they also prevent theft of the vehicle.

Prevent Vehicle Cloning: Vehicle cloning refers to a fraudulent activity that involves stealing the identity of a registered vehicle and using it for an illegal vehicle. HSRP offers a unique identity to a vehicle making it impossible to be cloned and used for illegitimate purposes.

Increase Traceability: Most importantly, digitally linking the HSRP with a vehicle allows police and traffic authorities to trace a vehicle quickly and efficiently.
