The FASTag is the initiative by the government to remove the congestion of vehicles on national and state highways and ease the toll collection process. With FASTag, individuals don’t need to wait in long queues since the procedure is fast.

Earlier, there used to be a manual procedure where vehicles needed to stop at the toll plaza, and then representatives would collect the payment in cash and provide a receipt. This used to consume a lot of time.

But with the inception of FASTag, vehicles have QR codes attached, which get scanned on toll plazas and deduction of amount directly from the prepaid account. But all vehicles don’t need to undergo the same process; some are exempted from FASTag deductions.

It means the vehicles owned by specific individuals can pass directly from the toll plaza without making any payment. In this blog, we will learn about the FASTag exemption list.

What is an Exempted FASTag?

As per the National Highways Fees Rules, 2008, Rule 11, certain vehicle categories are exempted from paying any user charge or fees on toll tax plazas.

These vehicles usually come under the exempted FASTag or toll tax category. However, despite being exempted, all these vehicles need to have a FASTag sticker.
